Anybody who knows me knows that I love horror films. It is my favorite genre. My second favorite horror movie of all time is Halloween and it the horror film I relate to the most. For the last several years fans have been teased news of a new Halloween movie, but nada has happened. The last Halloween movie was the horrible Halloween II which came out in 2009 and was directed by Rob Zombie. Since then we have had numerous rumors of a 10th film in the franchise, but nothing has come of it. Yesterday, one of my favorite horror websites, Dread Central, was at the Blumhouse offices where they got the surprise of a horror fans lifetime; John Carpenter will produce and most likely score the next Halloween film. Please read their article about this news here.
There is no way around it, this is exciting news for horror fans and fans of the Halloween franchise. Dread Central talks about how John Carpenter stated this Halloween movie will get back to the basics of the series, which means it should be more suspense driven than violence driven. Don't get me wrong, I love me some gore, but that was never what the Halloween movies were about. The best Halloween sequels are Halloween II and Halloween IV because they followed the suspense first aspect of the original film. It will be nice to get back to that again. The new Halloween movie will come out in 2017 so we have some time to wait, but at least we know it will be in good hands.
