Music Review: David Bowie - Blackstar

David Bowie is obviously a legend and his death earlier this year was a major loss to all music lovers.  My favorite era of Bowie is his 70's glam era, but his career is filled with great and memorable songs.  What makes Blackstar so interesting is that Bowie made this album knowing that he was going to die soon.  This makes some of the lyrics on this album cryptic and emotional.

Musically, Blackstar is really unlike anything anyone else is doing.  For example, the song Blackstar is an almost 10 minute song that almost feels like you are in a dream as you are listening to it.  Then there is Lazarus which is lyrically a commentary of Bowie's upcoming death and the music in the song is just amazing.  The guitar and the saxophone at the end of the song is just incredible.  Another favorite of mine on the album is Girl Loves Me which is a song that I love because of the way Bowie sings it and the great beat and rhythm to it.  There are a couple songs on the album that I enjoy, but they don't do much for me, but overall this is a great album.

While we miss Bowie, this is a special album for him to go out on.
